Charlene's Music and Books

Here are some of my favorite songs that I think you'll like, many of them brand new and just released. The ones marked "Dance" are dance remixes.

I have two books here, one a children's book about a curious little worm and the other is my autobiography. I'm also writing a suspense novel that will be released soon so sign up for my newsletter to get news on when it comes out and when I put new songs on the web site.

Enjoy!

    (Why Can't) Time Stand Still

I wrote the lyrics about my children and how someday they will be standing right where I am, wishing they had more time with their children.

    I Wanna Be A Woman

This song is about a woman who wants to be taken seriously in the world, to be truly loved, no games. I co wrote it with Mike Whitting in England. We worked very hard on this song, and it meant a lot to us.

I've Never Been To Me (Dance)

Wow did I take a leap with this! This is a monumental song, some love it as dance, while others don't. I think it is light hearted and brings a more positive aspect to it.

Lyrics

Hey lady, you, lady, cursin' at your life
You're a discontented mother and a regimented wife
I've no doubt you dream about the things you never do
But I wish someone had a talk to me like I wanna talk to you
Ooh I've been to Georgia and California, oh, anywhere I could run
Took the hand of a preacherman and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free

I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

Please lady, please, lady, don't just walk away
'Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me still living in your eyes
Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived a million lies
Oh I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece
Where I sipped champagne on a yacht
I moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things
That a woman ain't s'posed to see

I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

Hey, you know what paradise is? It's a lie

A fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be
But you know what truth is?
It's that little baby you're holding, and it's that man you fought with this morning
The same one you're going to make love with tonight. That's truth, that's love

Sometimes I've been to cryin' for unborn children
That might have made me complete
But I, I took the sweet life and never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that cost too much to be free

Hey lady, I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

I've been to paradise - never been to me
(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise - never been to me
(I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece
While I sipped champagne on a yacht)
I've been to paradise - never been to me
(I've been to cryin' for unborn children)
(Fade)

    Sea of Tranquility

This is a sensual song about a woman who is longing for love, and bingo she has him standing right in front of her, she is in heaven, with her lover right where she wants him.

    California Dreamin (Dance)

I have always loved that song, and my rendition of the song brings it to a new and fun level. I performed it a lot while I toured the UK, and the crowd always loved it.

    There I'll Be

I wrote this song about letting the one I love know that no matter how hard it may seem, how weak you feel, and how vulnerable you feel, I will always be there. Feelings come and go, but I will be there forever, by your side.

    Oh Cecilia

This song is about a friend who is telling this brainless man who is cheating on his perfect companion, being warned once she is gone, she will be gone forever.

    I Was You

This was written by Kenny Hirsch and Ron Miller. To me this song is about a love you can never have, a love who plays you like a total fool, a love who blinds you with incredible passion.

    Broken Women

This is about somebody who had it all, but with the assistance of drug abuse and self abuse she slipped between the cracks of life. Just to have a warm cup of coffee and a shoulder to cry on from a total stranger could change her life and possibly put her on the right track once again.

    Emotional Scars

"Somewhere in the distance I can see your smiling face, I know that you can save me from this dark and lonely place..." "I'm not afraid, I want to be wherever you are..." — From the lyrics

    Spirit of Woman

This song was written by Gavin Monahagn, who is a gifted writer. I think this song was meant to be an anthem for a woman's rights.....

    Symphony For A Broken Piano

This is one of the most beautiful songs I know. It is a metaphor of how a piano speaks through us with it's lilting sadness and it's deep rich melodies of life, a life that each one of us strives for. I wrote this song with Gaven Monahagan. He wrote the lyrics and I wrote the music.

Used To Be (With Stevie Wonder)

"Does your president have soul?" — a song more true today than when it was written. This is a perfect Failure: I say that because it was about 25 years before it's time. It's a metaphor, telling this world how sad it is that all this is going on. I loved singing this with Stevie Wonder. He is the truest talent I know, and I know many stars.

Lyrics

Superman was killed in Dallas
There's no love left in the palace
Someone took the Beatles' lead guitar
Have another Chivas Regal
You're 12 years old and sex is legal
Your parents don't know where or who you are

Used to be the hero of the ballgame
Took the time to shake the loser's hand
Used to be that failure only meant you didn't try
In a world where people gave a damn

Great big wars in little places
Look at all those frightened faces
But don't come here, we just don't have the room
Love thy neighbours wife and daughter
Cleanse your life with Holy water
We don't need to bathe, we've got perfume

Used to be a knight in shining armour
Didn't have to own a shiny car
Dignity and courage were the measure of a man
Not the drugs he needs to hide the scar

Can your teacher read, does your preacher pray
Does your president have soul
Have you heard a real good ethnic joke today
Mama took to speed and daddy ran away
But you mustn't lose control
Let's cut the class, I got some grass
The kids are wild we just can't tame 'em
Do we have the right to blame them

We fed them all our indecisions
We wrecked their minds with television
But what the hell, they're too young to feel pain
But I believe that love can save tomorrow
Believe the truth can make us free
Someone tried to say it, then we nailed Him to a cross
I guess it's still the way it used to be
